BEYOND THE VISIBLE
Maria Martin
Lawrence, Kansas

Artist Statement
“BEYOND THE VISIBLE” an exhibit on abstract landscapes, aims to be evocative and intriguing, hinting at the abstract nature of the artwork while still referencing the landscape theme. The overall direction of my work is abstract bordering on realism, and “BEYOND THE VISIBLE” also strikes a balance between being descriptive and open to interpretation.

I am a professional artist. I work in acrylic, monotype printing, and I cut paper. I use mediums and gels to work in texture and depth. My paintings include layers of vertical and horizontal colors, including collage adding a mix of textured papers which include my sketches, photographs, and interesting handmade papers. My style tends to be representational abstract art where it clearly depicts real objects and scenes but does not attempt to represent the real world as is.

Artist Biography
