The Exchange Clubs of Hancock County and Lawrence have teamed up to provide the 8th annual Field of Honor display of U.S. flags in Lawrence. The flags are displayed between the American Legion Department of Indiana, 5440 Herbert Lord Road, and the Indiana Military Veterans Hall of Fame, 5360 Herbert Lord Road, Indianapolis, IN 46216.
The Indiana Military Veterans Hall of Fame (IMVHOF) is also partnering with this event and will host an open house on Friday, July 4th between 10:00 am and 1:00 pm where you can meet veterans who have been inducted into the Hall of Fame. Drinks and refreshments will be provided. Feel free to drop by after the Lawrence Parade to see this inspirational posting of the Stars and Stripes and visit our IMVHOF.
The Field of Honor, open daily from July 2 – 5, features more than 500 flags standing in a solemn formation to honor heroes in our lives. First Responders (police officers, firefighters, EMTs), currently serving military personnel, and veterans may be honored with the display of a U.S. flag. These heroes, many of whom are family and friends, have given so much and continue to sacrifice in the defense of our freedom and safety...sometimes with the cost of their lives.
There is a story of service and sacrifice surrounding each posted flag to remind the mature and to teach the young that freedoms and safety have been purchased by the toil and blood of others. Each of us benefit from the sacrifice of these brave men and women on the battlefields of the world and in our local communities.
