Post work drinks. Violins and architecture. Majestic Theatre.
PLEASE NOTE: This event has had a change of venue. It will now be held at the Majestic Theatre (Neil Pitt's - 76 Brisbane St).
Join us for a fascinating history talk on Marino Lucas, the visionary architect behind Launceston’s beloved Princess and Majestic theatres. This special event will explore Lucas’s life, his architectural achievements, and the enduring significance of the Princess Theatre in Tasmania’s cultural landscape.
Hobbyist historian (and Program Manager at Theatre North) Stuart Loone will take us on a journey through Lucas’ life and the beginnings of the theatre. Designed by Lucas and opened in 1911, the Princess Theatre stands as a masterpiece of early 20th-century architecture. Its grand façade, intricate interiors, and role as a cornerstone of Launceston’s arts scene make it one of the city's most treasured landmarks. Through rare archival materials, historical insights, and engaging storytelling, Stuart will highlight Lucas’s architectural vision as well as his curious penchant for collecting violins of great significance.
Whether you’re passionate about local history, theatre, violins, or architecture, this event offers a unique opportunity to celebrate one of Launceston’s most iconic buildings and the architect who brought it to life. Don’t miss this entertaining and insightful evening!
