Comprehensive training designed to train individuals who will be supervising PRSS in clinical and non-clinical settings.

About this Event

Welcome to the Nevada Peer Recovery Support Specialist Training and Certfication provided by Foundation for Recovery! This training was designed for those that will be supervising PRSS in clinical and non-clinical settings and focuses on the development and enhancement of the 20 core competencies essential to effective supervision. Strength-based, person-centered supervision is the first step towards promoting competent and ethical delivery of peer services for those we serve.


Why Become a Certified Peer Supervisor?

In 2021, Senate Bill 69 (SB69) was passed in Nevada. Among other provisions, the law now requires anyone providing peer support services to become state certified through the Nevada Certification Board. The law also requires anyone who supervises individuals providing peer support become certified as an approved supervisor.


Training Overview: Days 1 & 2 (Required for all participants)

  • Provides an in-depth explanation of roles and responsibilities of a peer support specialist
  • Provides tangible tools for recruting, hiring, and supervising PRSS, along with strategies for intergratng peer support within deverse settings
  • Explores how to support your PRSS in staying within the scope of their role
  • Highlights the importance of providing person-centered, strength based supervision that focuses on the development of skills necessary for ethical and competent recovery services
  • Explores ethical considerations and boundaries in peer supervision
  • Provides techiniques in promoting self-care and resilience and reducing burnout and compassion fatigue among peer specialists


Training Overview: Day 3 (only required for those who are not certified PRSS)

This half-day explores additional workplace challenges that non-peer supervisors might encouter and reviews the core training that PRSS receive prior to certification.


Course Format

Attendees are required to participate fully in the first two days of the training, with the third half-day session being mandatory only for non-peer supervisors.
