Meditation is the art of focusing the mind and achieving a state of inner stillness. In the Yoga tradition, meditation is a means to transcend the mind and experience one’s true nature, which is pure bliss and consciousness. It involves sustained concentration on a single point, such as a mantra, an image, etc., to cultivate awareness and dissolve distractions. By regular meditation, practitioners can overcome the influence of mental distractions and restlessness, achieving a calm state of mind. This prepares the practitioner to access deeper states of awareness, ultimately leading to self-realization.
About this Course:
This is a course designed for those new to meditation. The aim is to introduce fundamental techniques in a supportive environment, helping participants develop focus and calm. Participants will learn step-by-step methods to create a daily meditation practice, using traditional tools such as mantras and breath awareness. This course is ideal for anyone wishing to embark on a transformative journey toward inner peace.
Each class will consist of two parts (each approximately 45 minutes):
PART 1: Iyengar yoga - Yoga helps to keep the physical body in good health and is invaluable when trying to maintain a still and comfortable posture in meditation. Simple breathing exercises (pranayama) and deep relaxation will be included towards the end of the yoga session. Pranayama helps to quieten the mind, preparing it for meditation.
PART 2: Philosophy and meditation practice – over the course of 4-weeks, we will be looking at some of the fundamental aspects of yoga philosophy that are most relevant to the practice of meditation. This will be followed by the guided meditation practice.
Venue: Lotussenteret, Stavernsveien 232 in Larvik – free parking available.
