Wildlife Specialist Drew Ricketts will lead participants through foundational steps in field dressing and breaking down a deer, with guidance focused on safety, meat quality, and proper handling. Attendees will gain a clearer understanding of the tools, methods, and decision-making needed to process their own harvest from start to finish.
In addition, professional taxidermist Travis Moos will demonstrate correct caping techniques for those interested in preserving hides for taxidermy. This portion of the workshop highlights best practices to ensure high-quality mounting results and avoid common mistakes that occur during initial field preparation.
The workshop supports Extension’s mission to provide practical, research-backed education that strengthens community skills and supports responsible wildlife management. By the end of the program, participants will be better equipped to handle and process deer confidently, safely, and with respect for the harvested animal.
