Elected Officials Unite for Family-Friendly “Bond & BBQ” at Hawk Island Park
LANSING, MI — In a powerful show of community unity, Senator Sarah Anthony, State Representative Kara Hope, and Ingham County Commissioners Myles Johnson and Todd Tennis are teaming up to host Bond & BBQ, a free, family-friendly cookout celebrating togetherness, service, and summertime fun in South Lansing.
📍 Hawk Island Park
📅 Wednesday, August 28, 2025
⏰ 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM
This event invites neighbors of all ages to enjoy great food, games, music, and meaningful connection in the heart of the community. More than a political gathering, Bond & BBQ is designed to create space for genuine fellowship—where families can relax, kids can play, and community members can engage with their local leaders outside of government buildings.
We wanted to do something that wasn’t about speeches or spotlights. This is about showing up for each other, breaking bread, and making community real again.
Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, bring their families, and bring their voices. While elected officials from various levels of government will be present, the focus is not on policy, it’s on people.
The event is free and open to the public. Local organizations and community partners will also be on site with resources, games, and giveaways.
