- anyone who has trouble dancing on time
- anyone who has trouble hearing the beat
- anyone who has trouble finding "the one" (musically speaking of course :))
- anyone who would like a basic introduction to music terminology
- anyone who has a basic understanding of music theory but would like help applying it to dance
- anyone curious about song structure and how to make their dancing sync with the highs and lows of a song
The goal of this workshop is to improve participants' relationship with music in their dancing by increasing awareness of and interaction with the beat. We will be exploring music through different mediums for a multisensory experience to help those that are visual learners, auditory learners and physical learners. Please bring a pen/pencil, a notebook and socks you are comfortable dancing in (even if you have dance shoes, you can bring these as well).
Andrew McIntosh
Dancer, choreographer, instructor with over 25 years of experience helping people find "the beat'. Andrew studied piano and participated in choir for a number of years as a kid and in general grew up with music in his life. Next to dancing, music is his second passion (hockey is his third). He has taught timing and musicality workshops for ballroom dancers and has designed the content of this upcoming workshop specifically for WCSwing dancers. Andrew is excited and eager to share his insight, tools and strategies and kindle a greater awareness and appreciation for the "third partner" in dance, the music!
