Understanding Names: Place Names and Surnames of North Lancashire Presented by Chris Eve

The Talk: Local and family history are fascinating and popular topics for study, either as a hobby or academically! This talk will focus on the background and origins of a number of towns,
villages and surnames in the north of Lancashire, particularly in the Lancaster area.

There will be time set aside to research your own surname and locality with the materials provided. Come and learn more about your past and maybe stimulate you to do further research.

The Speaker: Chris Eve is a practising genealogist, an IHGS correspondence student, an author and English tutor, and has lived in the Lancaster area for over 20 years. He’s been researching his family history since the 1980s. Chris was previously a librarian, gaining his MA in Librarianship from Loughborough University in 1992, where he specialised in English Local History.
