Beck Center for the Arts invites you to our Second Annual Beck Book Read, a powerful evening of community, reflection, and storytelling centered on Do I Dare Disturb the Universe?: From the Projects to Prep School, a compelling memoir by journalist and Cleveland native Charlise Lyles.
Charlise will lead a group discussion, sharing her personal journey and offering insight into the broader theme of belonging in the Rust Belt Region. She will be joined in the conversation by Dr. Mary Frances Pipino, Ph.D. a Professor of English at Ursuline College, who will bring additional context and perspective to the evening’s dialogue. Audience Q&A will follow with light refreshments and conversation at the conclusion of the event.
We encourage participants to read or become familiar with the book in advance to fully engage with the conversation. Pick up a free copy of Do I Dare Disturb the Universe? at the Madison Branch of the Lakewood Public Library (13229 Madison Ave.) while supplies last. The book is also available for check-out at both the Madison Branch and the Main Library (15425 Detroit Ave.), or for purchase at local and online booksellers.
The Beck Book Read is a community initiative presented by the Community Belonging Committee at Beck Center for the Arts, in partnership with the Lakewood Public Library, Ursuline College, and Hawken School.
This event is free but reservations are required.
