NEXT Gallery is excited for Waves by Susan McNeff Skokan

Waves move through us. Waves of sorrow, waves of delight, contractions move in waves, waves of doubt, waves of pain, waves of fear, waves of elation, waves of love… our actions ripple out into the world in waves. Wind stirs the grain in waves. Waves of vines and moss willingly grow over everything. And of course water, always water - tides reminding us what it means to move, to carry, to change. We were raised on plastic promises. “It’s fun! It’s progress!” The tide has turned. While plastic serves many things, the harm of cast away single use plastic haunts the ocean’s blue breath. Ecologically sound creation is not always simple. Art, like life, can be tangled with contradiction. Susan strives to work with awareness. With hope. What small choices can ripple into something greater? Waves is an invitation to feel what flows beneath the surface - to reflect, to move, to remember the beauty of this watery, green, breathing planet. Step inside and be held in wool felt, photographs and mixed media forms shaped by hand, with heart. Come. Dance in Waves.
