Join us for a field day at Itasca State Park on August 1st from 1-4 PM, where we will explore the crucial role that woodlands play in supporting pollinators. The event will feature presentations on pollinators in woodland ecosystems, followed by a nature walk focused on forest pollinators and the ecology of northern forests.
Angie Gupta and Anna Stockstad, both University of Minnesota Extension Forestry Educators, will discuss how forest ecosystems support biodiversity and contribute to healthy pollinator populations. Elise Berstein, the University of Minnesota's Pollinator Outreach Coordinator, will highlight the various types of pollinators that can be found in woodland settings and explain what makes them unique.
After the presentations, join our speakers and Connie Cox, Itasca State Park Naturalist, for a guided walk through the park. We will identify native plants that support pollinator habitats and, if lucky, observe some active pollinators! This event is perfect for anyone interested in forest health, biodiversity, and conservation.
Be prepared for any weather, rain or shine, and bring bug spray. Expect to walk and stand during the second half of the program. Snacks and refreshments will be provided.
