Carolina Chauffe, the voice and songwriting force behind the project hemlock, returns to their hometown of Lafayette, LA for a collaborative performance featuring a one-night-only cast of notable Louisiana inspirations, mentors, and friends. They invite you to experience an intimate and immersive listening experience in the very place that they began their performance career.
Formed in 2018, hemlock is the “phone-fi” alt-folk project of the swamp-raised, multi-disciplinary creative force Carolina Chauffe and various rotating collaborators, currently anchored between Louisiana, Austin, and Chicago, but more often on the highway. Chauffe was born and came of age in Lafayette, Louisiana, co-fronting the local act Shrugs before moving across the map, from Astoria, OR to Chicago, IL and beyond.
Doggedly DIY, they are an avid documenter and amateur archivist, with a discography spanning hundreds of self-released songs in half a decade. This past year brought hemlock to new heights with their most recent releases: ‘444’ (October 2024) is a “best of, so far” of an ongoing phone-recorded, song-a-day-for-a-month project, with its 12 carefully chosen tracks recaptured, rearranged, and reimagined in eager collaboration with an all-star Chicago band. ‘amen!’ (April 2024) is an exaltation, an ode to transformation, marking a return to the south, both in sound and on map. As always, is means-to-an-end modern-day folk art for the open-hearted.
