The Sasquatch 6 Hour.
Just under two months from now is the great Sasquatch 6 Hour event at MERA, in La Grande, OR. If you don't have it on your calendar already, make space and mark it down.
Sunday, October 5th.
If you haven't been down to ride the trails at MERA (Mt Emily Recreation Area) they are a blast. If you have been, this is a great reason to go ride there again. Well built trails with enough options to keep it exciting, if you want it to be. I heard someone describe them as a mix between a bike park flow trail and natural trails.
The event itself is low-key or competitive, your choice. You can ride as much or as little as you can/want in the six hours. Its not a big event, so don't think you'll feel overwhelmed. There's only been about 30-35 riders on course the last couple years.
The course is a ~9 mile lap with ~1200' of climbing. It starts with about 1 mile of dirt road, so riders are spread out fairly well by the time you reach the first singletrack. The course comes back thru the parking lot each lap so you can stop by your vehicle and refuel for the next lap. Or take a break instead, your choice.
If six hours of trail time sounds like too much for you, grab a friend or two and ride the 2 or 3 person team category. Go ride hard for an hour, take a break, do it again.
For logistics, its about a two hour drive from the TriCities; navigate to Owsley Canyon Trailhead Parking. (and be sure you're routed thru La Grande and then Owsley Cyn Rd north to the trailhead. Google maps at least can give an option to use Igo Ln from the east, that is a closed dirt road with no access)
