Seeing Land Anew: Mapping for Justice, Stewardship and Hope (in-person)

In this talk, Molly Burhans reveals how mapping land can illuminate powerful opportunities for community building, environmental stewardship, social justice, sustainable development and systemic change. She will share how data, ethics and technology can come together with science-informed community-driven analysis and design to help guide better decisions about land use. She invites audiences to reimagine land as a moral landscape with the potential to heal both people and planet.

ABOUT THE PRESENTER: Molly Burhans is a leader in faith-based environmentalism. She is also a cartographer and data scientist, best known for founding GoodLands and pioneering the use of geographic data to mobilize the Catholic Church’s landholdings for environmental and social justice. She led the creation of the first unified global map of the Church, which premiered at the Vatican, and is recognized for her innovative work in ecological restoration and conservation financing. A sought-after speaker and educator, Molly has been honored as a UN Young Champion of the Earth, an Ashoka Fellow and a recipient of the Sierra Club’s EarthCare Award.
