ゴールデンウィーク中の4月29日（火）に、実験音楽、オーディオビジュアル、パフォーミングアーツを紹介するイベントシリーズ「MODE」と共同で、パティ・スミス（Patti Smith）とサウンドウォーク・コレクティヴ（Soundwalk Collective）の日本初公演となるパフォーマンス「コレスポンデンス（CORRESPONDENCES）」を開催します。チケットは、昼公演、夜公演ともに2025年2月15日（土）10:00より、e+（イープラス）にて販売を開始します。
「コレスポンデンス」は、パティ・スミスとサウンドウォーク・コレクティヴによる10年以上におよぶ協働プロジェクトで、さまざまな地理や歴史、自然環境を横断する作品です。
サウンドウォーク・コレクティヴのステファン・クラスニアンスキーが、詩的な霊感や歴史的な重要性をもつ土地を訪れフィールドレコーディングによって「音の記憶」を採集し、パティがその録音との親密な対話を重ねて詩を書き下ろし、さらにそのサウンドトラックに合わせてサウンドウォーク・コレクティヴが映像を編集する。こうした“往復書簡（＝コレスポンデンス）”によって生まれたのが、本パフォーマンスの根幹を成す8つの映像作品です。これらの映像は、チェルノブイリ原発事故や森林火災、動物の大量絶滅といったテーマを探求するとともに、アンドレイ・タルコフスキー、ジャン=リュック・ゴダール、ピエル・パオロ・パゾリーニ、ピョートル・クロポトキンといった芸術家や革命家を参照しながら、人間と自然の関係やアーティストの役割、人間の本質について観るものに問いかけます。
「コレスポンデンス」はこれまでに、べネチア・ビエンナーレやコロンビアのメデジン近代美術館をはじめ世界各地でライブパフォーマンス、展覧会、上映、詩の朗読会、ワークショップと多岐にわたる形式で発表してきました。2022年にはパリのポンピドゥー・センターで「コレスポンデンス」の前身となる展覧会「エヴィデンス（Evidence）」を開催しています。
「コレスポンデンス」は、京都公演のほか、5月3日には新国立劇場 オペラパレスで東京公演が行われます。（主催：MODE / 株式会社YY）また、4月26日〜6月29日には、東京都現代美術館にてエキシビション「MOT Plusサウンドウォーク・コレクティブ＆パティ・スミス｜コレスポンデンス」が開催されます。（主催：公益財団法人東京都歴史文化財団 東京都現代美術館／株式会社YY、企画協力：MODE）
During Golden Week on Tuesday, April 29, KYOTOPHONIE collaborates with MODE to bring Patti Smith and Soundwalk Collective to Kyoto for the premiere live performances of CORRESPONDENCES in Japan. Ticket sales for the matinee and evening performances begin on Saturday, February 15th, 2025 (10:00) on e+.
CORRESPONDENCES is an ever-evolving project between Soundwalk Collective and Patti Smith that spans over ten years and traverses a wealth of geographies, histories, and natural environments.
The process sees Crasneanscki visit distant lands of poetic inspiration and historical signifi cance, collecting sonic memories through fi eld recordings. Smith then composes poems through an intimate dialogue with his recordings, whilst Soundwalk Collective edits visuals to match the soundtrack. This process of "correspondence" has resulted in the eight video works that form the core of the exhibition and performance. These works explore themes such as the Chernobyl nuclear disaster, forest fi res and the mass extinction of animals, while also referencing artists and revolutionaries such as Andrei Tarkovsky, Jean-Luc Godard, Pier Paolo Pasolini, and Pyotr Kropotkin; questioning the relationship between man and nature, the role of the artist and the nature of humanity.
Previous formats of CORRESPONDENCES have included live performances, exhibitions, fi lm screenings, poetry readings and workshops. These works have been presented around the world, including at the Venice Biennale and the Museum of Modern Art in Medellín, Colombia. In 2022, they also produced an exhibition titled Evidence at the Centre Pompidou in Paris.
In addition to the Kyoto performance, CORRESPONDENCES will be held in Tokyo as a performance on May 3 at the New National Theatre Opera Palace (Organised by MODE / YY Co., Ltd.), and in an exhibition, MOT Plus Soundwalk Collective & Patti Smith: CORRESPONDENCES at the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo from April 26 to June 29, 2025.
