Introduction:
The stick is a simple and ancient tool. It reflects the way humans interact with and use objects to shape their world. The stick is full of potential and it can be anything: from support to weapon.
In this course, we will explore the possibilities of the stick as a rhythmic and choreographic instrument, drawing on fundamentals from folk dances and martial arts.
Workshop – Who is it for?
Anyone who loves exploring movement and rhythm in a group setting.
Andrea Buttazzi
My name is Andrea Buttazzi, I was born in Italy. I work in teaching, writing, photography, theatre and film directing. I enjoy having an open approach on multiple fronts because I believe in the cross-pollination of knowledge and the arts.
I trained as an actor, director, and dancer in various contexts, working with artists such as Claudia Castellucci from Societas Raffaello Sanzio, Claudio Longhi, Karina Arutyunyan, Thierry Parmentier, and Gecko Theatre…
Currently, I work on two main tracks. On one hand, through writing, I aim to bring complex concepts—originating from academic disciplines such as history, philosophy, and science—onto the stage (and thus onto a plane of presence) in the most effective way possible.
In parallel, I explore the relationship between narrative and the use of the body. To what level of complexity can a body express a concept or a story without the help of words or speech? Is the body universal in the way it expresses itself? And therefore—so are rhythm, movement, gesture?
