🏆 About the 4th Curro Durbanville Rapid Open 2025
The Curro Durbanville Rapid Open has become one of Cape Town’s most anticipated annual chess events, attracting players from across the Western Cape and beyond. Now in its fourth edition, the 2025 tournament promises an even greater experience—bringing together a diverse mix of rising juniors, seasoned competitors, and chess enthusiasts in a competitive and family-friendly atmosphere.
Organized by the African Chess Lounge in partnership with Curro Durbanville High School, this one-day event offers a dynamic and well-structured rapid chess experience featuring seven rounds of Swiss-format chess, governed by the latest FIDE rules.
Whether you're a beginner taking your first steps in tournament play or a rated player chasing top honors, the Curro Rapid Open has a section for you:
🥇 Championship Section – for elite players rated 1800+ (FIDE/Chess SA rated)
🧠 Advanced Section – for competitive players rated 1500+
🎯 Intermediate Section – for developing players rated above 1200
🌱 Beginner Section – for learners and newcomers rated below 1200
💰 Prize Pool & Recognition
Over R6,000 in cash and vouchers will be awarded across all sections, including prizes for the top 5 finishers and Best Female Player in each section. This inclusive recognition model encourages participation across gender and skill levels while celebrating top performers.

👔 Dress Code & Conduct
All participants must be neatly dressed and wear shoes in the playing area. Electronic devices are prohibited during play unless approved for medical reasons. The event promotes fair play, discipline, and respect among all attendees.
