The History of George Dickel Whiskey Class and Tasting

The George Dickel Distillery, located in Cascade Hollow, Tennessee, is a historic site that manufactures Tennessee whiskey, notable for its unique charcoal mellowing process, which involves chilling the distilled spirit and filtering it through sugar maple charcoal to achieve a mellow flavor before it's aged in oak barrels.

The history of the George Dickel Distillery begins in the 1870s with Nashville merchant George A. Dickel, who began selling whiskey from a distillery in Cascade Hollow. Dickel eventually became the sole distributor for the high-quality Cascade Whisky, which was known for its smooth flavor attributed to the local water source. After Prohibition shut down the original distillery, Schenley Distilling Company rebuilt a new distillery at Cascade Hollow in 1958, resuming production with the historic recipe and water source. The Diageo-owned George Dickel Tennessee Whiskey brand continues to celebrate the brand's rich history and commitment to the Lincoln County Process.
