【小説「アメリカの悲劇」の映画化作品】
　1951年製作のアメリカのドラマ映画。
　監督はジョージ・スティーヴンス、出演はモンゴメリー・クリフトとエリザベス・テイラー、シェリー・ウィンタースなど。
　原作のセオドア・ドライサーの1925年の小説『アメリカの悲劇』は、1931年にジョセフ・フォン・スタンバーグ監督によっても映画化されているが、さらに再映画化された作品。
　二人の女性と１人の男の間での恋愛関係がもつれていくことで、ある結末にいきついてしまう。
　主演者の好演が高く評価を受け、アカデミー賞、ゴールデングローブ賞、ナショナル・ボード・オブ・レビュー賞など数々の受賞をした作品。
