The Brutalist (Cert 18) is an epic period drama. Visionary architect LΓ‘szlΓ³ TΓ³th, played by Adrien Brody, is a Jewish Hungarian holocaust survivor, who escapes post-war Europe to America to rebuild his life, his career and his marriage. On his own in a strange new country, he settles in Pennsylvania, where a wealthy and prominent industrialist recognises his talent. After struggling for many years with addiction and other set-backs, the architect is eventually recognised with a retrospective at the Venice Biennale of Architecture.
"Structurally beautiful and suffused with Adrien Brody's soulful performance. Writer-director Brady Corbet's immaculately designed The Brutalist is a towering tribute to the immigrant experience." Rotten Tomatoes. Worthy recipient of the Silver Lion at the Venice International Film Festival and of 10 Academy Awards, this is a film worth every minute of its 3 Β½ hrs!
