Tone and Colour: Techniques for Expressive Playing

At every level, the most important element for expressive playing is a balanced and well coordinated technique which enables the student to express themselves musically. Only then is it possible to develop the fine gradations of tone and colour. In this presentation Rae will explore the tools needed to develop musical playing which not only sounds good but also feels easy. Using her highly successful book Fit 4 Piano, Rae will show how and understanding of simple exercises can enhance the ability to produce a free and beautiful sound. She will then show how these tools can be applied to repertoire at all levels.

The session will begin with a one-hour seminar, followed by a short break. The second half will feature eight student performers in a fast-paced series of 10-minute mini-workshops at the piano, offering a dynamic and practical insight into Dr De Lisle's transformative teaching in action.
