Set in the Bolivian Altiplano, UTAMA tells the story of an elderly Quechua couple whose traditional way of life is threatened by an increasingly devastating drought. The film weaves a quiet, visually stunning reflection on:

  • The emotional and cultural impacts of climate change
  • Indigenous resilience and ecological knowledge
  • Intergenerational tensions around staying, adapting, or moving
  • The dignity and grief embedded in decisions to migrate or remain

UTAMA asks: What happens when the land that anchors a community can no longer sustain it? And how do younger and older generations understand—and respond to—the pressures of climate change?

Post-Screening Discussion

Following the film, we will host an open, facilitated conversation exploring themes of:

  • climate vulnerability and resilience
  • environmental displacement and mobility
  • Indigenous perspectives in climate discourse
  • ethics, belonging, and intergenerational futures

All attendees are welcome to contribute or simply listen.

Accessibility & Practicalities

  • The Wilberforce Institute is located in Hull city centre and easily accessible by public transport.
