On Wednesday 6th from 2 – 4pm come find yourself in the James Reckitt Reading Room upstairs at Hull Central Library in the company of author and social justice campaigner Josie Moon.
Josie Moon: My roots run deep in Grimsby’s East Marsh, where I serve as People and Place Ambassador for East Marsh United, pouring my energy into social justice and community-led change. Being a Proud East Marshian means dedicating myself to challenging poverty and inequality alongside our incredible team. Yet, there’s another current in my life: writing. It’s where I explore the echoes of myth, the spirit of place, and the landscape of the human condition. Over the past ten years, my words have found form in three volumes of poetry, plays for community theatre, and a short film created through a rich collaboration with artists and filmmakers. Writing isn’t just what I do; it’s how I understand the world.
Join us from 2pm in the James Reckitt Reading Room upstairs – lift access available – We run the open mic at our monthly event each slot – strictly five minutes, please time your pieces at home beforehand – the list will open about half past one. This time constraint is vital to encourage different voices and subject matters, thus creating a varied listening experience for the audience. And there will be a break, where we will pass around the hat for donations. The suggested donation is two pounds per person. If you can’t donate we understand, it is not mandatory.
Women of Words is an event series and platform for women writers, set up in 2016 as a response to what was then a male-dominated scene. The stage is reserved for women, but men are and have always been welcome in the audience.
