Author of What Do You Do When You're Lonesome: A Biography of Justin Townes Earle.
Join us for an intimate evening with Jonathan Bernstein, Senior Research Editor at Rolling Stone, as he discusses his deeply researched biography of the late singer-songwriter Justin Townes Earle.
When Justin Townes Earle died in 2020, he left behind eight albums and a striking body of work that bridged folk, blues, and Southern Gospel. The son of alt-country legend Steve Earle, Justin created his own unique sound—from the career-making *Harlem River Blues* to haunting songs about displacement, addiction, and redemption. His was a short but incredibly creative life marked by both brilliance and struggle.
With full cooperation from the Justin Townes Earle estate, Bernstein unravels the backstories behind Justin's greatest songs and captures the shadow world of Nashville's musical legacy—where the children of legends wrestle with hard-living, often absent parents. This heartbreaking tale illuminates not just one artist's journey, but the myth that one must suffer for one's art.
The evening will include a reading, Q&A, book signing, and a special musical guest performing Justin's music.
