Garage 33.Gallery-Shelter, у партнерстві Ukraine Solidarity Residencies Programme та HIAP – Helsinki International Artist Programme (Гельсінкі, Фінляндія) презентує виставковий проєкт «Дім постійного вигнання»! Відкриття виставки відбудеться 8 серпня о 19:00, в Garage 33 біля метро Сирець. Цим проєктом незалежний artist-run простір Garage33 офіційно відкриває свою діяльність та позначає себе на культурній мапі України.
Виставка Дім постійного вигнання — міждисциплінарний мистецький проєкт, що об’єднує висловлювання п’яти кримськотатарських художниць і художників, які сьогодні живуть у стані вигнання, постійної мобільності та розірваного дому. Проєкт досліджує, яким чином особистий досвід втрати території, культури, мови й коріння може трансформуватись у нову форму художнього висловлювання. Яким є дім для тих, хто був змушений залишити власний? Як можна зібрати фрагменти втраченої ідентичності й створити символічний простір для відновлення та опору?
Художниці та художники, що беруть участь: Юсуф Абібулаєв, Еміне Зіятдін, Рената Асанова, Севіля Наріман-кизи, Ельміра Шемседінова.

Протягом місяця учасниці та учасники відвідували програму однойменної резиденції в Києві, досліджували кримськотатарську спадщину, архіви Національного музею історії України у Другій світовій війні, національного художнього музею України, дослідницької платформи PinchukArtCentre, відвідували лекції та воркшопи присвячені деколонізації, тілесним практикам та практикам памʼятання, а також працювали над новими творами, що поєднують особисті спогади, колективну пам’ять Криму, актуальний контекст війни та тривалих процесів окупації.
Виставка створює багатоголосий образ сучасної кримськотатарської культури у вигнанні, яка знаходиться на перетині тілесної, просторової та політичної вразливості. Цей проєкт розглядає стан «постійного вигнання» як історичну травму та потенційний простір для нової солідарності, нових форм спільноти і мистецької мови, що проростає крізь руйнацію. Він відкрито говорить про те, що в умовах війни і колоніального насильства навіть пошук дому є процесом боротьби — і водночас актом творення.
«Беручись організовувати цей проєкт, я неодноразово себе перепитувала: “Чи маю право працювати з темою кримських татар?” Адже я не є представницею цього народу. Але я виросла разом, між, серед, з… Смак солоного нуту в пісному, але найсмачнішому плові, звареному на багатті у дворі наших кримськотатарських сусідів, — для мене так само вплетений у пам’ять дитинства, як і пісні моєї бабусі, яка зберігала рідну мову у вимушеному переселенні в Крим. Це і мій дім. Мій Крим. Не вигаданий, не романтизований, а прожитий на суворій степовій землі — простір, де пам’ять та ідентичність сплітаються крізь досвід виживання.
Перед тим як з’явилася ідея “Дім постійного вигнання”, ми довго вагалися із початком офлайн-роботи простору Garage33. Ми довго не могли знайти саме ту виставку, той проєкт, яким би хотіли відкрити наш простір. Нам неймовірно цінно працювати з усіма митцями, що стали частиною цього проєкту, адже їхні художні твори й підхід до висловлювання виходять далеко за межі постколоніального візуального коду, усталеного для “конвенційного споживання”.
Моя особиста мета — аби цей проєкт допоміг широкій аудиторії, в Україні та за її межами, побачити мистецтво кримськотатарських митців передусім як мистецтво: сучасне, модне, міжнародне, вільне від колоніальних стереотипів, здатне звучати сильно й актуально на світовій артсцені», — Марія Куликівська, артдиректорка Garage33 та співкураторка виставки.
Виставка є публічним результатом першої резиденції Дім постійного вигнання, організованої незалежною ініціативою Garage33.Gallery‑Shelter (Київ), у партнерстві з HIAP — Helsinki International Artist Programme (Фінляндія) та Ukraine Solidarity Residencies, за підтримки Європейського союзу за програмою House of Europe.

Garage33.Gallery-Shelter (Kyiv, Ukraine), in partnership with the Ukraine Solidarity Residencies Programme and HIAP – Helsinki International Artist Programme (Helsinki, Finland), is proud to present the exhibition project “Permanent Home of Displacement”! The opening will take place on August 8 at 19:00 at the Garage33, located near Syrets metro station in Kyiv. With this project, the independent artist-run space Garage33 officially launches its activities and marks its presence on Ukraine’s cultural map.
“Permanent Home of Displacement” is an interdisciplinary art project bringing together the voices of five Crimean Tatar artists currently living in exile, in a state of permanent mobility and fragmented sense of home. The exhibition explores how the personal experience of losing one’s land, culture, language, and roots can be transformed into a new form of artistic expression. What is “home” for those who were forced to leave theirs behind? How can fragments of a lost identity be reassembled to create a symbolic space for restoration and resistance?

Throughout the past month, the artists have participated in the eponymous residency in Kyiv, exploring Crimean Tatar heritage, studying archives at the National Museum of the History of Ukraine in the Second World War, the National Art Museum of Ukraine, and the PinchukArtCentre Research Platform. They attended lectures and workshops on decolonial practices, embodied knowledge, and memory work, while creating new artworks that intertwine personal memories, the collective memory of Crimea, and the ongoing context of war and occupation.
The exhibition presents a polyphonic portrait of contemporary Crimean Tatar culture in exile, shaped by bodily, spatial, and political vulnerability. The project views the state of permanent displacement both as a historical trauma and as a potential space for new solidarities, communities, and visual languages that emerge through rupture. It openly acknowledges that in the face of war and colonial violence, even the search for a home becomes an act of resistance—and a creative gesture.
“When I began organizing this project, I kept asking myself: Do I have the right to work with the theme of the Crimean Tatars? After all, I am not a member of this community. But I grew up with, among, alongside them... The taste of salted chickpeas in the most modest yet delicious plov, cooked over a fire in the yard of our Crimean Tatar neighbors, is as ingrained in my childhood memory as my grandmother’s songs—she preserved her native language through her own forced displacement to Crimea.
This is also my home. My Crimea. Not imagined or romanticized, but lived on the harsh steppe land—a place where memory and identity are intertwined through the experience of survival.
Before the idea of Permanent Home of Displacement emerged, we hesitated for a long time about launching Garage33 as a physical space. We couldn’t find the right exhibition to begin with—until this one. We are deeply grateful to all the artists involved in this project. Their works and their approach to expression go far beyond the postcolonial visual codes typically expected for ‘conventional consumption.’

This exhibition is the public outcome of the first edition of the Permanent Home of Displacement residency, organized by the independent initiative Garage33.Gallery-Shelter (Kyiv) in partnership with HIAP – Helsinki International Artist Programme (Finland) and Ukraine Solidarity Residencies, with support from the European Union through the House of Europe programme.
