"Toward Xenopolis. Visions From the Borderland": Public Discussion and Presentation

What does it take to rebuild civil society after violence? How do we learn to live with those different from ourselves? And how can culture become a tool for healing rather than division?

These are the central questions explored in the book “Toward Xenopolis. Visions From the Borderland” — a powerful collection of essays that reflect on the role of culture, memory, and dialogue in bridging divides and building community. The book challenges us to look beyond polarization and toward connection, empathy, and shared responsibility.

Speaker:
Krzysztof Czyżewski — Polish writer, philosopher, cultural practitioner, theatre director, and co-founder of the Borderland Foundation. For decades, Czyżewski has worked at the intersection of art, activism, and intercultural dialogue, creating spaces for encounter across historical, ethnic, and social boundaries. His concept of xenopolis — the “city of others” — invites us to see diversity not as a problem, but as the foundation for a more human and resilient society.
