Baskets & Barrows Festival

Our Baskets & Barrows Festival will take place on Saturday 10th May & Sunday 11th May. As in previous years, we will be celebrating the May Day tradition of placing a doll in a basket and surrounding it with spring flowers. These displays in church have been enjoyed by visitors for the last 20 years. This year, we have decided to expand our ideas and ask for our exhibits in church to have a 1940’s theme, with baskets containing an idea of the rations our grandmothers used to queue up and buy, give the doll in a basket a uniform or make it look like an evacuee with a label and a suitcase, and ‘Dig for Victory’ wheelbarrows. Entry forms will be available at Easter and will need to be returned to Alan (St Giles). Additionally, we plan to have an area in church where visitors can read about what Desborough was like in the 1940’s, and we will need old photographs and testimonies. Please share your memories with us and make them available for the new generation of Desborians!
