Elterwater Swimming Adventure

Our Elterwater Swimming Adventure is an easy paced swim hike, taking in some of our favourite little swimming spots near to our base in Ambleside. If you are a regular visitor to the Lakes you will enjoy the change of scene and different swim locations. If you are new to the Lakes then lucky you! You are about to discover your new favourite swim.

The lower fells around Elterwater offer some really enjoyable walking. You still get the fantastic views of the surrounding fells, in particular towards the Langdale Pikes, but with less of the slog associated with our standard upland terrain. Nature lovers will appreciate the flora and fauna of this area and if we’re lucky, we’ll get to swim with the great crested grebes and their chicks and perhaps the swans (after which Elterwater is named. It means “Swan Lake” in Old Norse). This is a wonderful trip whatever the weather, but on a sunny day the slate shingle beaches and wildflower meadows make ideal picnic spots. Nice places to enjoy a warming mug of tea or hot chocolate after a swim.

This is an ideal trip for anyone who has done a bit of open-water swimming and who also enjoys a hike. Our relaxed and friendly guides will ensure your safety on dry land and in the water and are there to make sure you enjoy your day out.
