This activity is run in conjunction with the University of Warwick sustainability team. We are running annual surveys of small mammals to provide useful data to support university activities and educate staff and students about the variety of mammals present on campus.
After setting Longworth traps the previous evening, we are inviting members to be present when traps are opened. There will be a general introduction to small mammal surveying, and then we will check the Longworth traps for animals. The activity will possibly last 1 hour. However, depending on how many small mammals we find, it might take longer to check all the traps.
We understand that some participants may not be able to stay until the end - it's perfectly fine, please just let the organisers know before you leave.
We will meet on the 'Spine Route' of campus, near the Sports and Wellness Hub carpark (see red star on attached map in event pictures shown above). This carpark is a public carpark but you will need to pay for parking, and this can be done online using the information present on the carparking signs. The nearest postcode is CV4 7EU, but this will not take you directly to the start location, but should help you find the carpark (which is long and thin and the entrance is directly opposite the Sports and Wellness Hub and climbing centre).
What3Words location for the start point is ///brands.piper.less.
Please aim to be at the start location (see red star) 5 mins before 9am to enable us to start the activity on time. However, if you are running late or are unable to find the meeting place, please call the organiser on 07385 037159.
Please note that this activity will be outdoors, so it is essential to wear suitable clothing and footwear (prepare for uneven, wet/muddy ground).
