MUTUAL SUPPORT:
Contact Improvisation for the Next Generation
Mutual Support is about giving and taking; action and receptivity. It’s about practicing being overtop and underneath.
Noticing how the nervous system works most effectively when in an active yet relaxed state, we will cultivate more plasticity and range by staying alert and aware while maintaining grounding and containment. Bringing the body into the present moment through breath, sound, and movement, we become available to offer support to our partners and to ourselves. A warm-up to feel gravity leads into facilitation of foundational skills, which help absolute beginners find their way. More experienced dancers will find new ways in, new perspectives, new challenges and new levity.
Jen is a contemporary dancer, choreographer, teacher, bodyworker and somatic counsellor. She has been a student of EDAM (Experimental Dance And Music) and Peter Bingham since 2002 and a teacher since 2006. She believes that Contact is a doorway into greater self awareness, more somatic empathy and more compassion. She’s taught across Canada, up and down the West Coast and in Mexico.
Mutual Support is for all levels, ages, abilities, genders and experience levels. This is a workshop for humans who have a passion for learning, movement, creativity and imagination. Come prepared to sweat, breathe, move and feel. Come prepared to touch and be touched. Please advise us in advance if you have special needs, concerns or injuries that may require assistance.
