The Black Cat 10 Minute Play Contest is Back!
New Vintage Theatre is now accepting applications for original, never performed ten minute plays written by Canadian artists that are suitable for production in a stripped down, cabaret format. 6 finalists will be selected and go into production for our annual Black Cat Cabaret in 2026.
Rules
1. Must be an original, never performed play written by a Canadian artist.
2. Should be suitable for performance in a stripped down, cabaret style staging.
3. Maximum of two entries per playwright.
4. The play should not have any listing of the playwright's name on it to allow for blind judging.
5. Six finalists will be selected after blind judging takes place by unidentified theatre professionals selected by New Vintage Theatre's Artistic Director.
6. One of the selected finalists will be from the BIPOC community as outlined in our company action policy towards encouraging voices from underserved communities.

7. Winning play will be determined by audience voting over the course of 2-3 evenings. The winning playwright will receive a trophy and $500 cheque.
