Born in Ukraine, to a father who was never there, and a mother lost to alcohol, I learned early what it meant to be on my own. The streets, the system, and eventually the orphanage-that became my world. The orphanage was cold and unforgiving-a prison-yet somehow, it was the only place that felt like home.
