About the Brezovo Region:
Mass rose cultivation in the Brezovo area began in the second half of the 19th century and continued to thrive throughout the 20th century. Located in Bulgaria’s famous Rose Valley, this region is a key part of the country’s traditional rose-growing area, known for its oil-bearing roses.
After WWII, large rose plantations were developed in Brezovo and its neighboring villages, accompanied by the growth of distilleries for rose oil production. The oil was used in perfumery, cosmetics, and culinary products. During this time, Brezovo became an important economic center for rose production in Bulgaria.
Monday, May 26
9:00 – Breakfast in the Rose Fields
Enjoy local delicacies served on beautifully decorated tables right in the fields, prepared by the cultural volunteers from the community center in Veren. There will be an open fire for baking traditional “katmi” pancakes, and a rose-shaped version of the classic Bulgarian “banitsa” served with local yogurt. A special folklore performance will accompany the ritual rose-picking. You'll have the opportunity to take photos, join the picking, or simply enjoy the moment. Special gifts await: rose jam and rose liqueur.
12:00 – Villa Apia – Rose Jam Cooking Workshop
The same community volunteers will reveal the secrets of homemade rose jam.
14:30 – Departure for Zelenikovo (20 km)
15:00 – Exclusive Visit to the Rose Distillery
The distillery opens its doors exclusively for our group.
The rose distillery in Zelenikovo plays a vital role in the Rose Valley. The area has a rich tradition of cultivating oil-bearing roses and producing rose oil. The distillation process uses steam and large vessels to extract the precious rose oil, widely used in perfumery and cosmetics. High precision is required to preserve the quality and aroma of the oil.

18:00 – Arrival at Villa Apia
