VA Marker Installation

Joel J. Engler served as a Private with the 44th Indiana Infantry, Company G during the Civil War from October of 1864 until June of 1865. He died in December of 1890 at the age of 55, and was buried in Elmwood Cemetery. He has never had a headstone.

He was born in 1835 and joined the Army Infantry at the age of 29.

He married Lucy Ellen Manning in 1877 and she lived until 1932. She is not buried with him.

As an Army veteran, the Veterans Administration has provided a headstone for him which will be installed on his grave on Memorial Day weekend, Sunday, May 25, at 1:00 pm.

Join us at the Armour Chapel in Elmwood Cemetery at 12:30 p.m. Sunday, May 25, as we walk his headstone to his grave, where we will have a short memorial service and you can participate in the proper method for installing a VA marker.
