Kelly Hunt w/ Beth Watts Nelson
“If we could come together the way Nelson and Hunt play double banjo, we could solve every important question facing our world today."~ Danny Alexander [Take Em As They Come]
Memphis-raised singer-songwriter (Kelly Hunt) and native Kansan/former music teacher (Beth Watts Nelson) may look like an odd couple at first glance but the music they make suggestsnnnotherwise. These two are soul sisters, and their voices blend with the kind of easy closeness usually relegated to blood bonds. Taking turns on banjo, guitar, and harmony/lead vocals, Hunt and Nelson bob and weave through a medley of time-honored traditionals and patinated originals seemingly unearthed from the songbook of Americana.
Ezgi Karakus w/ Beau Bledsoe
Cellist Ezgi Karakus and guitarist Beau Bledsoe are core members of Ensemble Ibérica, a Kansas City-based ensemble dedicated to exploring the music of Spain, Portugal, and Latin America. Originally from Turkey, Karakus brings a rich classical and international background to her soulful interpretations, while Bledsoe, the group’s founder and artistic director, blends classical, flamenco, and folkloric styles from across the Iberian diaspora. Together, their performances offer a dynamic and deeply expressive musical journey that bridges continents and traditions.
Ezgi Karakus is a genre-defying Turkish cellist, vocalist, and composer known for her boldartistry and magnetic stage presence. A classically trained soloist with a Doctor of Musical Arts from the UMKC Conservatory, she has performed with major ensembles like the Kansas City Symphony, Tulsa Symphony, soloist performances with Topeka Symphony and Springfield Symphony, also appeared at prestigious venues including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Merkin Hall, and unique stages across Turkey and South America. She was also invited to perform in a master class with Yo-Yo Ma at the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts.
Blending influences from Turkish, Spanish, and world music, Ezgi composes and performs original works that cross cultures and genres. She also sings traditional Turkish music and her own songs, delivering deeply expressive performances. Her meditation album Warmest Wave received Grammy consideration in the New Age category. She currently serves as principal cellist of the Turkish American Orchestra and is a core member of Ensemble Iberica.
