A Journey of Hope and Healing with the Sydors

Darryl is a retired NHL Pro of 18 years earning two Stanley cup rings. However, he notes his greatest successes as his loving wife and four amazing sons. To many, life seemed perfect for the Sydor family. Yet, in 2015, years of hidden addiction came to public light when Darryl was charged with drinking and driving while taking his then 12-year-old son to a hockey game. Darryl returned to treatment with the unwavering support of his family, close friends, and the NHL/NHL Player’s Association Substance Use and Behavioural Health Program, where he continued his journey to wellness and recovery.

Now with years of sobriety under his belt, Darryl wants to help pave the way for those who are fighting the same internal battles he has.

In a very special event, Darryl and his wife Shar will talk candidly and openly about their journey, the challenges, and the bright spots which will encourage and inspire those in attendance. Part proceeds from the event will be donated to Day One Society, a local non-profit organization that has been providing help, hope, and healing for over 50 years to those struggling with substance use issues.

The event includes a hot, family-style breakfast, coffee/tea, networking, keynote talk, and a special gift for each attendee. Please note: If you have dietary restrictions, hotel staff will let you know the ingredients in each pass around dish at your table.

Sensitive discussions around substance use will be shared at this event. Day One Society will have counsellors available onsite to provide support as required.
