TITLE: Africa: Coexistence on the Frontlines of Conservation
Description: 40-days in the field with Game Rangers International. Take a holistic look at conservation in Zambia through community outreach, wildlife rescue and resource protection. Journey down the Zambezi River to experience world renowned whitewater and the incredible ecosystem of Lower Zambezi National Park. Learn about poaching, human wildlife conflict, deforestation, and the current threats facing the 1,600 mile long Zambezi River.
About our Guest Speaker: Mandela van Eeden is an international adventure guide & educator who grew up between Montana’s public lands & a private nature reserve in South Africa. This upbringing shaped her into a professional storyteller & conservationist.
For the past two decades, Mandela has worked as an expedition river guide in over 26 countries, where she has recorded a local radio series & podcast called, “The Trail Less Traveled”.
Mandela is passionate about wildlife conservation issues on every continent. She does this both professionally and during her spare time on the board of directors for the Montana Wildlife Federation and the Montana Natural History Center.
Mandela values traditional skills and the ancient knowledge of elders. Mandela spent half her life guiding multi day expeditions because she feels people who spend time in wild places are more likely to fight to protect them. She strongly believes children are our greatest natural resource and whenever possible she does outreach at schools in order to inspire the next generation of conservationists.
