Welcome to a peaceful nature walk where we stop to observe the world through the lens of a camera! On this scenic adventure, you don’t need to be an expert in species identification or a professional photographer – curiosity for nature and being present in the moment is enough.
Photography is a wonderful way to learn to see the beauty around you!
During the walk, we will photograph mossy hummocks, the shapes of lichens, reflections of light, the silhouettes of birds, and even a single petal of a flower. We’ll learn to notice the smallest details and the hidden beauty of nature – whether you're using a DSLR camera, or just a smartphone.
Your guide is Paul Stevens, an experienced nature photographer, biologist, and nature writer whose enthusiasm is truly contagious. Paul will teach you how to work with natural light, compose images, understand your camera’s limitations and possibilities, and find interesting subjects around you. He will demonstrate how different lenses work – or how to get the most out of your phone camera.
During the walk, we will learn:
– How to notice shapes, patterns, and colors in nature
– How to move responsibly and photograph even the most sensitive subjects
– How to use apps like iNaturalist or LuontoPortti to identify species
– How to combine photography, observation, and learning about nature
What matters most is not the distance covered, but the act of pausing, observing, and experiencing together. This is the perfect trip for anyone who wants to engage all senses and connect with nature – through the camera.
Lauttavaara Nature Trail
Lauttavaara is an easy 2.5 km loop trail with impressively diverse landscapes. Along the path, you’ll encounter old spruce forest, lush streamside groves, rocky hills with sparse vegetation, and meadows.
There is also a shelter with a fireplace along the route, where we can take a break and enjoy our snacks.
