Dear hikers,
Pine forests, olive trees, oak trees, old bridges, old mills, historical Roman road & great views!!! In a few words, this is what we will observe during our beautiful hike on Sunday December 14 2025.
Arsoun is a typical traditional small Lebanese village in El Metn Area. 90% of the village is covered by pine and oak trees, a density among the highest in Lebanon!!! Arsoun is located 30 kms away from Beirut, and 800 m above sea level.
Ras el-Matn is a town in Lebanon located on the western steep slopes of Mount Lebanon, in the upper Matn section at varying elevation between 800 and 1000 m above sea level. It's known for its panoramic views and pine trees and its location giving a view to the western sections of el-Matn and the Mediterranean Sea.
The name literally translates "top" (ras) of "the mountain" (el-matn).
Salima holds a significant place in history as the former seat of the Abillama Emirs since 1515. The village is renowned for its remarkable architectural heritage and cultural legacy, reflected in its splendid yet weathered Abillama seraglio (serail), ancient churches, fountains, and other historical remnants.
Descri[ption of the trail:
This new trail has a lot to offer while we are hiking: pine trees, olive trees, old mills, old bridges, great views, old ruins and rich in water sources. Also we will pass by several villages starting from ras el metn, deir el harf, jouret arsoun (arsoun village), qornayel , salima , and ending in arsoun.
Most of the trail is flat, some of the paths are wide and some are narrow surrounded by tunnels of shrubs and bushes, pine and oak trees, green landscapes, mountains and hills. We will have only two uphills, both of them are around 20 mins but they are not steep until we reach a max altitude of 930m in order to contemplate a breathtaking view of the region.
Beside the beautiful nature, landscapes, and the water springs we should not forget to mention the historical monuments that we will pass by during our hike like the old churches, old mills, the ottoman bridge and the ancient maassaret debs.
So the trail is considered moderate and it is a must to visit during this time of the year so don't miss it.
