The Sword and the Flame
A Monthly Practice Tournament at Stag’s Rest Farm
Hosted by Oda and Bart
Held at 10:30 AM on the Fourth Sunday of Each Month (weather permitting)
Join us at Stag’s Rest Farm for The Sword and the Flame, a monthly practice tournament designed to help fighters grow comfortable in tournament settings. This event is relaxed and welcoming, but includes real stakes and ritual to make each bout meaningful.
Each month, two honors will be awarded:
The Sword of the Valley – Given to the tournament winner, who will take home the sword and return the following month to defend the title.
The Heart’s Flame – Chosen by the assembled consorts and awarded to the combatant who most exemplifies chivalry.
This will be a traditional-style tournament. Salutes and heraldry will be observed. The format will adjust based on the number of participants. If we have eight or less attendants we will do a round robin. With more folks we will have either a Swiss-list or double elimination bracket.
In order to fight, each combatant must have a consort present. If you have no consort present but still wish to fight, we will find you one. Heralds and list managers are welcome to attend and gain valuable experience alongside the fighters.
Practicing tournament fighting in a structured but low-pressure environment is one of the best ways to overcome the nerves that often come with formal competition. It allows fighters to grow more comfortable with the rhythms, rituals, and expectations of a real tournament. This includes everything from saluting and heraldry to pacing and mental focus. By repeatedly stepping into that space with purpose, fighters can build confidence, refine their presence, and reduce the anxiety that can interfere with performance.
Following the tournament, we will hold an open fighter practice on the farm grounds. If none of that is your cup of tea, feel free to bring a project to work on inside or field side.
Stag’s Rest Farm is located in North Alabama, approximately two hours from Birmingham, Florence, Murfreesboro, Chattanooga, and Anniston—making it a centrally located Sunday gathering for fighters across the region.
Come to fight, to learn, and to grow. Let the Sword rise, and let the Flame burn bright.
