Auditions for "Can't Get Away with This"

Auditions for “Can’t Get Away with This,” an original murder mystery based on a true case from 1928 will be held on April 30th and May 1st from 6:00 – 8:30 pm at the McKinney Center in Jonesborough. The new play, researched and written by Anne G’Fellers-Mason, has roles for 12 people total, 6 men and 6 women. There are 3 main roles and several ensemble roles. Those interested in auditioning should come to the McKinney Center (103 Franklin Avenue) during those dates & times prepared to read scenes from the play. An audition monologue is not required. The play will debut on July 18th with additional performances on July 19th, 25th, and 26th.

“Can’t Get Away with This” is based on the murder of Officer James Hood, the only Jonesborough policeman to be killed in the line of duty. His body was discovered on the morning of August 26, 1928, on Main Street, and it was obvious he’d met with foul play. The intense investigation, arrests, and court case that followed consumed the attention of the town for several weeks. But justice was never found for Officer Hood, and the rifts that followed the jury’s decision pushed the crime into the shadows, not to be talked about. This interactive play, with opportunities for the audience to investigate alongside the characters, will present all the evidence and sources from the time. What really happened that night? Come and be a part of the play and discover for yourself. This play is rated PG-13 for adult themes and suggested violence.
