About the event

Repairing the Broken Vessel

About this Event

The wound is a place where light enters in. ~Rumni

The Carnegie Library defines the Japanese word Wabi-Sabi as “rather than find faults in cracks, tears, and other imperfections, the Japanese concept of wabi-sabi encourages us to appreciate that nothing is truly perfect or permanent.” Adding to it, Kintsugi, or golden joinery, is the act of mending the broken. Combining the two concepts will help you to be kind to the “cracks”.

This workshop focuses on reflecting on your brokenness and helping you find healing by mending it all together. Join us in meditation, creativity, and reflection. We will break a supplied bowl, paint/create, then put it together again (that’s the hard part—in more ways than one!), then share about our process (well, maybe THAT’s the hard part).

All supplies will be furnished. You will be able to take your bowl home with you. This is not therapy, but it might feel like it.

If you frequently feel frustrated, this activity may push your limits and may not be suitable for you.

✨ Jennifer Hasty, LPC/MHSP has been in Upper East Tennessee for 10 years. During these 10 years, she completed her BS in Psychology and moved on to Graduate School where she completed a Master of Clinical Mental Health in 2019 and became a Licensed Professional Counselor in 2022. Although her main jam is using EMDR to help people through their traumatic memories, she enjoys using expressive arts to get into the “deep weeds” with people.

Jennifer is a therapist in private practice and has held expressive arts workshops for folks in trauma recovery on a community level, as well as on a smaller scope in her office in Johnson City. Originally from Central Virginia, Jennifer encountered, as many of us have, bruises and bumps along life’s road. And through the mending of those broken bits, she’s made a peaceful life for herself.

“It’s an absolute joy for me to see the light in people’s eyes when they tell me how their art helped create change in their awareness. This stuff is amazing!”
