Sarah-Jane Summers er en skotsk felespiller og komponist med dype røtter i tradisjonsmusikken fra Highlands-regionen, samt mastergrad på hardingfele fra Norges Musikkhøgskole der hun studerte både norsk folkemusikk og frie improvisasjonsformer. Hun er for øyeblikket doktorgrads-stipendiat ved NMH.
Juhani Silvola er en finsk-norsk komponist, produsent og gitarist med bakgrunn fra både jazz, folkemusikk, klassisk musikk, og elektroakustisk samtidsmusikk.
De har spilt sammen i 15 år, og utgjør en særegen duo som kombinerer dyp tradisjonsforståelse med utforskende og grenseløs tilnærming til lyd og komposisjon, og skaper virtuos musikk som utnytter hele følelsesregisteret.
Summers/Silvola fikk nylig i oppdrag å skrive musikk for og spille sammen med BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, og de fremførte verket Spirit Multitude på Tectonics Festival 2024 med dirigent Ilan Volkov. Deres verk for strykekvintett og duoen, How To Raise the Wind, vant NOPAs musikkpris i 2022, og deres siste duo-album, The Smoky Smirr o’ Rain var nominert til Spellemann 2021 i Tradisjonsmusikk. De skrev nylig ett nytt verk til Bozzini Quartet – en av verdens ledende strykekvartetter innen samtids- og eksperimentell musikk – som ble urframført på Nordlysfestivalen og Celtic Connections i 2025.

Sarah-Jane Summers is a Scottish fiddler and composer with deep roots in the traditional music of the Highlands, as well as a master’s degree in Hardanger fiddle from the Norwegian Academy of Music, where she studied both Norwegian folk music and free improvisation. She is currently a PhD research fellow at the Academy.
Juhani Silvola is a Finnish-Norwegian composer, producer, and guitarist with a background in jazz, folk music, classical music, and electroacoustic contemporary music.
They have performed together for 15 years, forming a distinctive duo that combines profound understanding of tradition with an exploratory and limitless approach to sound and composition, creating virtuosic music that spans the full emotional spectrum.
Summers/Silvola were recently commissioned to compose and perform music with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, premiering the work Spirit Multitude at the 2024 Tectonics Festival under the baton of Ilan Volkov. Their work for string quintet and duo, How To Raise the Wind, won the NOPA Music Prize in 2022, and their latest duo album, The Smoky Smirr o’ Rain, was nominated for the 2021 Spellemann Award in the Traditional Music category. They recently composed a new piece for the Bozzini Quartet – one of the world’s leading string quartets in contemporary and experimental music – which premiered at the Northern Lights Festival and Celtic Connections in 2025.
