"Fire up the Stills: A Brief History of Moonshining in Appalachia" with Dr. Bruce Stewart

On Friday, September 12, at 6:00 p.m., the Museum of Ashe County History invites the public to an interesting lecture by Dr. Bruce Stewart, exploring the rich history of moonshining in Appalachia.

Dr. Stewart’s presentation will provide an historical overview of the moonshining practice, shedding light on the factors that drove distilling in the post-Civil War era. This engaging talk promises to offer insight into one of the region’s most infamous operations.

The program is part of Ashe County’s Lecture Series for the America 250th, a nationwide initiative commemorating the 250th anniversary of the United States. The lecture will be held in the historic 1904 courtroom at the Museum of Ashe County History, located at 301 East Main Street, Jefferson, NC.
