MAYFOUK HIKE
Mayfouk is a picturesque Lebanese village in the Byblos (Jbeil) district of Mount Lebanon, located 60 km from Beirut, with altitudes ranging from 800m to 1100m. Historically, it was the second Maronite Patriarchal seat in Lebanon.
Known as the "Village of Honey," Mayfouk hosts an annual honey festival every summer, where you’ll have the chance to purchase high-quality local honey during our exceptional hike.
Hiking in Mayfouk offers a unique experience, as the village is rich in historical monuments, stunning views, and diverse natural trails.
Our hike will be divided into two levels, both starting together from Deir Saidet Mayfouk (established in 1746), where we’ll visit the oldest Maronite icon in Lebanon: Our Lady of Elige. This rare icon is especially significant in Maronite liturgy, as icons are not typically part of Maronite tradition.
We will then proceed to the St. Charbel Chapel, dedicated to the "hermit" St. Charbel, located on a mountain that overlooks a beautiful area.
Next, we will visit the Mar Saba Church, an ancient, abandoned church nestled between two giant, centuries-old oak trees.
After this, the group will split into two levels:
Level 3 will follow an easier route, while Level 6 will take a more challenging path. Both groups will meet up at the historical Monastery of Mar Geryes.
Level 3 will have ample time to explore and then take the bus to the Monastery of Our Lady of Elige (built in 1120 AD), one of the oldest monasteries in Lebanon. Saint Charbel Makhlouf spent nearly a year here, and you’ll be amazed by the fine architecture, including the arcades, colonnades, and barrel vaulting.
Level 6 will continue on foot to Ram, and then head to the monastery of Our Lady of Elige.
At the end of the hike, we will all gather at a local restaurant, where delicious traditional dishes will be prepared for us. You will also have the opportunity to buy some of the village's special local honey.

WHAT TO GET: Light snacks that will boost up your energy such as dried fruits, water, cap, sunglasses and sunscreen. Wear comfortable shoes such as hiking shoes and always keep a windproof jacket in your backpack.
SPECIAL RATES:
- Children with the age of 10 and younger will have a discount of $5.
- Children/ Teenagers between the age of 11 and 18 will have a discount of $4.
- University students will have a discount of $3 provided that they present their university card.
- Groups with 5 to 9 persons, with different criteria than the above, will get a $2 discount.
- Groups with 10 or more persons, with different criteria than the above, will get a $3 discount.

- Cancellation with less than 24 hours’ notice will be charged half-price
- Reservations with less than 24 hours’ notice will be charged an extra $2.

ESSENTIAL ECOTOURISTIC RULES & REGULATIONS
- Smoking is strictly prohibited during the event
- Always follow the guide on the designated trail
- Do not go off road without notifying the guide
- Do not get close to a cliff especially when the guide in charge tells you not to do so
- Although accidents are covered by the insurance but they remain under the responsibility of the member
- Sometimes, due to reasons beyond our control, slight modifications to the program may occur. Ecotourism rules must be followed, otherwise personal accidents will not be accounted for by the insurance.

Randonnée
Mayfouk est un pittoresque village libanais dans le district de Byblos (Jbeil), situé à 60 km de Beyrouth, avec des altitudes variant de 800 m à 1100 m. Historiquement, c’était le deuxième siège patriarcal maronite au Liban.
Connu sous le nom de « Village du Miel », Mayfouk organise chaque année un festival du miel en été, où vous aurez l’occasion d’acheter du miel local de haute qualité lors de notre randonnée exceptionnelle.
La randonnée à Mayfouk offre une expérience unique, car le village regorge de monuments historiques, de vues magnifiques et de sentiers naturels diversifiés.
Notre randonnée sera divisée en deux niveaux, tous deux débutant ensemble depuis Deir Saidet Mayfouk (fondé en 1746), où nous visiterons la plus ancienne icône maronite du Liban : Notre-Dame d’Elige. Cette icône rare est particulièrement significative dans la liturgie maronite, car les icônes ne font pas partie de la tradition maronite.
Nous poursuivrons ensuite vers la Chapelle de Saint Charbel, dédiée au « ermite » Saint Charbel, située sur une montagne qui surplombe une belle vallée.
Ensuite, nous visiterons l’Église de Mar Saba, une église ancienne abandonnée nichée entre deux énormes chênes centenaires.
Le groupe sera ensuite divisé :
Niveau 3 suivra un itinéraire plus facile, tandis que Niveau 6 prendra un sentier plus difficile. Les deux groupes se retrouveront au Monastère historique de Mar Geryes.
Le Niveau 3 aura amplement le temps de visiter, puis prendra le bus pour se rendre au Monastère de Notre-Dame d’Elige (fondé en 1120), l’un des plus anciens monastères du Liban. Saint Charbel Makhlouf y a passé près d’un an, et vous serez émerveillés par l’architecture raffinée de ses arcades, colonnades et voûtes en berceau.
Le Niveau 6 continuera à pied jusqu’à Ram, puis se dirigera vers le monastère de Notre-Dame d’Elige.
À la fin de la randonnée, nous nous retrouverons tous dans un restaurant local, où des plats traditionnels délicieux seront préparés pour nous. Vous aurez également l’occasion d’acheter du miel local spécial du village.

REGLES D’ECOTOURISME ESSENTIELLES ET REGLEMENT
- Interdiction de fumer durant l’événement.
- Toujours suivre le guide sur le chemin indiqué.
- Ne pas emprunter un chemin sans en avertir le guide.
- Ne pas s’approcher d’une falaise, particulièrement quand le guide dit de ne pas le faire.
- Bien que les accidents soient couverts par l’assurance, la responsabilité du membre est toujours engagée.
- Parfois, pour des raisons indépendantes de notre volonté de légères modifications pourront être apportées à notre programme.
- Les règles d’Ecotourisme doivent toujours être respectées. Dans le cas contraire, en cas d’accident, l’assurance ne pourrait pas vous prendre en charge.
