Join the Four Rivers Forestry Committee and guest speaker Kat Shay for the free presentation, Bringing Back Good Fire, Tuesday July 8th, 6pm EDT at the Jasper Parklands Pavilion (800 W. 15th St, Jasper IN). Discover the current and historical ways that fire benefits people and ecosystems across southern Indiana and the central hardwoods region.
Kat Shay is a forest ecologist and Project Coordinator at the Hardwood Ecosystem Experiment, a 100-year study of the effects of forest management in southcentral Indiana. She manages collaborative research projects and prescribed burns focused on resilient land management and forest regeneration within the central hardwoods region. The presentation will share research findings related to the use of prescribed fire, as well a historical perspective of its use in the eastern United States. Those looking to learn more about prescribed fire, and its benefits for habitat management, are encouraged to attend.

The Four Rivers Forestry Committee is made up of individual forest owners, government employees, forestry and wildlife management professionals, and consultant foresters, all working together to improve our forest resource. They support the wise utilization and management of our forest resources, including the use of managed timber harvests, controlled burns, invasive species control, and timber stand improvement.
