Local Author Talk: Speak Her Name

Join Mary Jumbelic, M.D., former Chief Medical Examiner of Onondaga County and author, as she shares stories from her new book "Speak Her Name", released July 7, 2025.

Mary's first award-winning book "Here, Where Death Delights" (2023) is a memoir sharing her work-life balance and experiences as she navigates the world of forensic science, autopsies and mass graves while being a woman, mother and spouse.

Mary’s new memoir "Speak Her Name" focuses on personal stories and investigations into violent crimes against women from her 25 years in forensic pathology, including her role as the first female Chief Medical Examiner of Central New York. Experiencing motherhood in juxtaposition with her job provided constant reminders of her two lives: one with the living, and one with the dead. Such high-profile cases as Leslie Neulander, Carol Ryan, and April Gregory highlight the reality of our society and its treatment of women—and the enduring power of our voices to effect change.
