Iwona Gołąb is a name that needs no introduction in the agility world, and she is returning to Australia in September and October this year.
Hailing from Poland, Iwona has been involved in dog sports for over 15 years, building a diverse foundation in agility, disc dog, protection work, and herding. As an international agility competitor and instructor, Gołąb has represented Poland on the world stage every year since 2013
Her personal motto, “Talent sets the floor, character sets the ceiling,” reflects her belief that success comes not just from natural ability but from dedication and heart. This ethos has guided her rise from national events to the pinnacle of global agility competition.
Training Philosophy and Methods
Iwona is renowned for her innovative training methods, particularly her focus on speed, drive, and the dog-handler connection. She emphasises that true agility excellence comes from communication and trust. As she has explained, “Training is telling. Connection is understanding… But a connected dog? They’ll clear it with confidence, because they feel your belief in them.”
Iwona Gołąb’s methods blend practical experience with science – her popular “Coaching Speed in Dog Sports” course, for example, is praised as “well-presented” and covers “the science, biomechanics, and technical aspects” of building an agile, fast canine athlete. Whether it’s teaching explosive acceleration off the start line or fine-tuning a handler’s timing, Gołąb is known for techniques that bring out a team’s full potential while maintaining a strong, positive bond.
Over the years, Iwona Gołąb has amassed an extraordinary list of accomplishments, solidifying her reputation as one of the sport’s top competitors. She has been a European Open finalist every year since 2013
Her achievements include:
2024 World Champion (FCI Agility World Championships): Iwona and her Border Collie “See Ya” clinched the Individual Agility World Champion title in 2024. This historic win came after a dramatic run-off for first place, underscoring Gołąb’s nerves of steel under pressure.
2024 European Open Team Champion: As part of Team Poland (the “Polish Bullets”), Gołąb helped secure the European Open 2024 team gold in the Intermediate height division
Multiple International Titles in 2024: In the same year, she also took Overall Winner at the prestigious Border Collie Classic 2024 and captured the Grand Prix title at Moravia Open 2024
World Championship and European Open Medals: Earlier, Gołąb earned a Bronze medal with Team Poland at the 2018 World Championships
Team Gold at the 2022 European Open
She has consistently been on the podium in world-level events, both as an individual and team competitor.
National Championships: Iwona is a multi-time national champion in several countries. She has won the Polish National Agility Championship (and been runner-up in 2019, 2021, 2023) and remarkably has also earned championship titles in Sweden, Norway, and Finland
