Jacksonville, FL – Stage Aurora Theatrical Company, Theatre that Enlightens, is excited to present an immersive theatrical presentation of The Sit-In Experience: Ax-Handle Saturday. Stage Aurora will have one performance Sunday, August 24 at 3:00pm at WJCT Studios, 100 Festival Park Ave, Jacksonville, FL 32202. The Experience is created and directed by Darryl Reuben Hall, a veteran of the stage.
The Sit-In Experience: Ax Handle Saturday is an immersive reenactment of a 1960 Sit-In that occurred August 27, 1960 at Woolworth's Department Store and Hemming Plaza in downtown Jacksonville. The Experience will reenact Black students protesting at an 'All white' lunch counter. The Experience will fuse Entertainment, ‘Step’, Part Script, Improvisational Theatre and a cappella Negro music to commemorate the 65th Anniversary of Ax-Handle Saturday.
Tentatively scheduled to appear: Rodney Hurst Sr. (Author, It was never about a hotdog and a Coke), Dr. Chris Janson, Deborah McDuffie and the Ritz Voices plus a cast of 40 actors who will bring the reenactment to life. The general audience will partake in a talkback/town hall on the experience and how not to repeat these atrocities from the past led by surviving participants, family members, city officials, and historians.
